WORKSHOPS

Here at KIS we offer a wide variety of workshops, starting with our beginners and the Sampler Quilt/Quillow workshops to more advanced patchwork and arty workshops using outside tutors.

Learn to piece nine blocks and make them into a small quilt.

 

Every Wednesday 10am – 1pm (other days are bookable subject to availability).

New to Patchwork

Always wanted to have a go at Patchwork, now is your chance to try. We will have project bags to choose from and we will teach you the basics. Bring your sewing machine and make a simple bag, or try out some hand piecing. (Please bring needles, thread, scissors), have a fun afternoon. Book your place early.

Christmas comes early at KIS, this ensures you have your projects finished in plenty of time. On this occasion, you may even finish this project in a day.

Sit and Sew 2 Days

Book your two days sewing, bring your sewing machine and your project/s and enjoy two days of sewing. No need to tidy away, leave everything out and just sew. Lunch and refreshments included. Book early to avoid disappointment as places are limited.

Jewel Box Cross Body Bag with Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets

Finished size approx. 8" x 9" x 2".

This great little quilted bag, with the 3-D motif made in Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) is perfectly sized to take your phone and purse if you are just popping out. Full instructions are given for the simple FPP motif and you will find the zip placement a doddle. Once you find out how easy these are to finish, you will want to make one for every outfit! Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Mega Star Tote Bag with Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets

Finished size approx. 16" x 22" x 4" (or 18" x 24" flat).

In this workshop Helen will show you how to make a flat ruler bag or a tote bag with capacity – both start the same way. A fun project for both beginners and more experienced sewists – this project includes a little bit of everything: cutting, piecing, quilting, trimming binding and a very simple method of making a bag to suit your needs. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Alexander the Elephant with Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets

Finished size approx. 21" x 21".

Following the success of HANNIBAL, we bring you the second in the Elephant Series! Made in Foundation Paper Piecing this cheeky chap is keeping warm in his colourful blanket. Full instructions are given for the FPP technique, but it is recommended that you have some basic knowledge of the method before class. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Pineapple Spiral with Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets

Finished size approx. 20" x 20".

Fun with simple Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) – this design may look complicated but it is very easy to achieve! Perfect to make a cushion front or tote bag. Full instructions are given for the stitch-and-flip FPP technique. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

Fabric Magic Bag with Annabelle Reynolds

This workshop is run over two Saturday Mornings. Make the magic and start the bag and finish the following Saturday.

Zippy Bags with Helen Butcher of Little Patch Pockets

Finished Size approx. 7" x 3" x 2".

A fun little project for you to make for friends and family this Christmas – with integrated quilting and simple zip insertion – a choice of eight different motifs and a friendship braid which extends to the back of the pouch (simple FPP).

Full instructions will be given for FPP so even if you have never tackled this useful and versatile technique before, Helen will guide you through it. A full copy of the pattern, with lots of photographs and diagrams, will be provided for each student at the end of the class so you can make lots more at home! This is a machine sewing class.
