Here at KIS we offer a wide variety of workshops, starting with our beginners and the Sampler Quilt/Quillow workshops to more advanced patchwork and arty workshops using outside tutors.
Beginners Workshops
Learn to piece nine blocks and make them into a small quilt.
Every day from 10am - 1pm (subject to availability).

HANTEN Japanese-Style Patchwork Jacket
A fun project for sewists of all levels of experience.
This is a Japanese-style boxy jacket with big pockets and wide, drop sleeves and a stepped chevron patchwork motif. Made to fit you, our first class will be about drafting the simple, flat, square pattern pieces using the traditional Japanese method (handspan, arm length etc… no embarrassing measurement need be taken!) We will move on to the patchwork and quilting and in the final class we will start to put the jacket together and add the collar. PLEASE NOTE: there will be an amount of homework to complete between the three classes to ensure that you can get to the finishing stage in Workshop 3. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams and, of course, you will have your pattern pieces so you can make this pattern again. This is a machine sewing class.

Cathedral Windows Christmas Tree with Vendulka Battais from Oliven
Create a unique wall hanging to bring out year after year to decorate your house for Christmas. This Hanging is pieced on a machine, but includes some hand sewing as well. Pre-cutting of materials prior to class is recommended to achieve as much as possible on the day.

In this class you will create a wonderful hanging inspired by Rennie Macintosh. You can make the hanging match your interior or it makes a perfect present for a friend.

Computer Bag with Vendulka Battais from Oliven
Do you like a bag with pockets? Then you will love this one. It can be used for lots of things, but it’s the perfect size for most laptops, documents and has several compartments and pockets to keep things tidy. Pre-cutting of materials prior to class is recommended to achieve as much as possible on the day.

Free Motion Workshop for Beginners and Advanced Students

This class is aimed at beginners as well as advanced students, who are looking for new designs, how to create them and overall full day of practicing.

KITTENOPOLIS Cot Quilt or Wall Hanging
A fun project for sewists of all levels of experience.
These simple improv blocks are such fun to make you’ll just want to keep on going! Set with squares of unpieced fabric in between (a great place to use some of those bold prints from your stash) this quilt will grow quickly. A great use for a 10 inch Layer-cake, or make them from fat quarters – there’s also a tiny version made from Charm Squares. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.

ON POINT Shoulder Bag
For confident beginners and upwards (involves accurate cutting and sewing).
With your favourite Charm Pack and a length of contrasting fabric, you, too, can make this useful and stylish shoulder bag. With an optional hung pocket on the inside to take your purse or phone and a loop to clip your keys to, it is super functional for everyday use. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home – or make another one in a different colour! This is a machine sewing class.

Modern Hexies Runner with Vendulka Battais from Oliven
Hexagons are old time classics loved by many. In this class we will create a table runner or a cushion with a modern twist by stitching them down by machine to create a very contemporary look.

LIBERTY Book Cover
Skill Level: Confident beginners and onwards.
Finished size approx. 8 x 6 x 1 inches (depending on the A5 notebook/diary you bring to the workshop!)
The spikes on this New York Beauty style book cover remind me of the Statue of Liberty; hence the name (nothing to do with the fabric company, although this would look lovely made in Liberty’s fabric!) In addition to full tuition for the wraparound Foundation Paper Pieced motif on this lovely book jacket, I will be showing you how to make a jacket that fits snugly on your A5 hardbacked book or diary. These make beautiful gifts and with the skills you learn in the workshop you will be able to make covers for any size or shape of hardbacked book or album. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with colour photographs and diagrams, to complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class.
